About Torque Alumni
Xavier Shadowdancer
is a North Carolina native whose mix of belly dance and hip-hop styles creates
a charm that captivates all who see him dance. Originally a student of African
Dance, Xavier discovered belly dance in November 2006 and has studied under
the instruction of Carmen Cavanaugh and Faun Finley. He taught basic belly
dance at Adam & Eve Lingerie in 2008. One of Greensboro’s few male belly
dancers and proud alumni of Torque, he often performs at events such as
Summer Solstice and Tate Street Fall and Spring festivals and was recently
featured in the News & Record for "Get Down Town Greensboro.”
Xavier has taken several workshops with Zoe Jakes and Rachel Brice and is inspired by other male dancers, such as Valizan and Tito. Knowledgeable in both Tribal Fusion and Egyptian Cabaret styles, he loves playing the zils, prefers tassels over coins, and is captivated by classic belly dance music of the 1950s and 60s
in November 2009, Xavier had to step out of regular practices and performances with Torque because he is returning to school. He plans to continue woring woth Torque and will performs as a guest performer with us as his new schedule allows.
Xavier plans to teach bellydance at Twisted Dance Studios on Sunday evenings. See Torque's class schedule page for details.
